Letter to the Community: Thank you Mayor Mary Marvin

Nov. 25, 2020: Thanksgiving is a time to thank those who have impacted our lives. In this particularly difficult year, we, as friends of Mayor Mary Marvin, would like to acknowledge some of the many gifts she has given to the community for which she cares so deeply.

During the past nine months, Mary has been a beacon of light. She led the village through the dark early days of COVID-19 when Bronxville was at the epicenter of the health crisis. She has worked around the clock with Police Chief Christopher Satriale to keep residents informed and up to date on the best ways to protect themselves and others from COVID-19. With Mary’s leadership, the support of the village trustees, and her strong connections with NYP-Lawrence Hospital and the school, Bronxville’s COVID-19 cases have been kept to a minimum.

Recognizing that the heart of our village is our local merchants, Mary worked tirelessly with the Chamber of Commerce and local residents to set up BXV for BXV, a multi-initiative program to ensure the survival and vibrancy of our downtown with financial support. Part I of the Merchant Loan program has already aided 16 local businesses: Part II will be coming soon. Additionally, she supported our local restaurants by expanding sidewalk dining, using space that is usually reserved for parking!

Mary is one of the smartest people we have ever met. She is also known for her warmth, enthusiasm, humor, courage, and unparalleled talent for friendship and concern for others. Her love of family is legendary—which includes the 6,000-plus Bronxville residents. Mary loves a good story and is a terrific raconteur. She is creative and is a wonderful teacher and role model on how to do an excellent job seamlessly. She has dedicated untold hours to our village, and yet when you meet her on Pondfield Road, she always has a beaming smile. Above all, Mary is the voice of reason.

Mary, a heart is not judged by how much you love but how much you are loved by others!

Happy Thanksgiving, Mary, from your grateful friends!
