Nov. 11, 2020: Guests attending The Counseling Center’s first virtual annual appeal, held on October 29th, discovered it was almost as much fun as an in-person event. Attendees successfully navigated an unfamiliar platform, figuring out how to join a raffle and virtual paddle raise. Best of all, their generous donations surpassed by 39% annual appeals held by The Counseling Center in the autumn of previous years, a welcome development considering that public health concerns had forced the cancellation of last spring’s gala.
The evening kicked off with a pre-event Zoom presentation in which several board members shared expressions of enthusiasm and support for The Counseling Center’s vital work. Some had personally benefitted from its help at crucial turning points in their lives. Others mentioned the increased need for therapeutic services during the on-going pandemic. And still, others emphasized the importance of The Counseling Center’s ability to subsidize those who cannot pay the full fee for its services, made possible by the openhearted support of its donors. The comfort, reassurance, and insight offered by The Counseling Center’s outstanding therapists during this past year have helped people who are truly suffering, giving them renewed hope and dignity.
The official fundraiser began with a prerecorded video presentation from Executive Director Virgil Roberson describing the unprecedented demand for The Counseling Center’s services during the pandemic. Later, several donors mentioned being so impressed by the mental health needs Virgil described, they were inspired to give more.
The Counseling Center sends a heartfelt thank you to the Bronxville businesses that provided generous gift cards or baskets for its raffle: A wine basket from Bronxville Wines & Spirits, won by Maria Schultz; a cheese basket from Dobbs & Bishop, won by Sarah Waterstone; and spa services from Maison Rouge, won by Valerie Atkins.
Board member Richard Pink made a debonair auctioneer during the virtual paddle raise. Guests of the event who wanted to create a festive atmosphere while socially distancing in their living rooms gave high marks to the meal provided by Scarborough Fair and the wine offered by Bronxville Wines & Spirits.
The Counseling Center wishes to thank everyone whose gifts will ensure that its important work continues.
