Junior League of Bronxville Remains Steadfast To Service

By Amy Brown, VP Communications , Junior League of Bronxville

Nov. 4, 2020: At a time when volunteer organizations are challenged by COVID-19, the Junior League of Bronxville (JLB) is determined to safely support their neighbors in need throughout their service areas of Bronxville, Eastchester, Mount Vernon, Tuckahoe and Yonkers.

One meaningful milestone was the 150th Mobile Food Pantry outreach that took place on October 23, 2020.  The JLB began its partnership with Feeding Westchester in 2014.  The Mobile Food Pantry is a traveling grocery “store” that distributes fresh and nutritious food to communities like the ones the JLB has supported over the years in Mount Vernon and Yonkers.

As noted by the League’s Executive Vice President, Kristin Smith, who volunteered at the milestone distribution, “With an estimated 150 families at each pantry, and an average of 3 people per household, approximately 67,500 people have been fed over the course of the last six years.”

To provide a more socially-distant volunteer opportunity, the JLB also held its second annual “Cooking for a Cause” initiative.  Thirty members prepared portions of a meal that were picked up and delivered by volunteers to the CSA Soup Kitchen in Mount Vernon.  This initiative, that fed 200 individuals in one week, was started last year to honor the loss of the League’s past President and beloved sustaining member, Erica Sevilla.

“The JLB’s leadership is committed to our vision of ‘Mobilizing Women to Ignite and Inspire Community Change,” said President Michelle Schoulder.  “Whether we are finding new ways to make a meaningful impact, or engaging our current and prospective members through virtual meetings, I am proud to be part of this sisterhood.”
