August 24, 2011: This summer's extreme heat may still be upon us, but it's time to start thinking about back-to-school registration. Not for the children, but for you!
The Bronxville Adult School (BAS) has published its fall/winter catalogue, and it's chock-full of some of southern Westchester's most fascinating courses, trips, and lectures, sure to awaken the learner in all of us.
Art: Do you want to embrace your creative side? The BAS has exciting new art courses in ceramics and portrait drawing, along with favorites in watercolors, oil painting, and stained glass. If you lean to the crafty side, you can create artwork for your arm with the Bead Embroidered Bracelet class or stick to your knitting with Knitting for Knitting's Sake.
Languages: Perhaps your summer travels inspired you to learn a new language or brush up on a rusty one; you can take beginner or intermediate classes in French, Italian, and Spanish at BAS. You can capture those travels or other treasured memories in Memoir Writing. Relive a visit to England with the Reading Shakespeare Aloud workshop.
Fitness: The BAS is offering even more fitness courses this fall, with more times and more choices, including daytime Zumba classes. Enroll in Intro to Weight-Training and watch your overall fitness level improve. G Fit promises a unique, high-energy workout for both men and women. Yoga hasn't lost its popularity either, and BAS has something to suit everyone, with daytime and evening classes as well as Dude Yoga for men. Racquet sports aren't forgotten; tennis, paddle tennis, and squash are being offered.
Bridge: Bridge, that fun and challenging game, is a perennial favorite of BAS students. Tournament champion Sylwia McNamara will be teaching a variety of daytime classes, including advanced seminars for those players looking to move their game to the next level. For the first time, Beginner Bridge will also be offered at night, with instructor David Yates. Join the thousands of people playing bridge every day!
All these, plus classes in cooking, dance, personal finance, technology, and so much more are scheduled weekdays, weeknights, and weekends at BAS.
Catalogues are available online at www.bronxvilleadultschool.org, at the library, and at many local establishments.
