Jun. 14, 2017: During this year's New York State School Music Association ("NYSSMA") festival, the Bronxville Middle School Choristers under the direction of Pamela Simpson came home with a gold medal.
NYSSMA holds festivals each year in which school choirs from schools in communities throughout New York State compete at varying levels and have the opportunity to win a medal for their performances.
Ms. Simpson explained that, to compete in the NYSSMA festivals, choirs must prepare three songs, two from a required list and a third that meets additional requirements. The Middle School Choristers sang "The Storm is Passing Over," by Charles Albert Tindley, and the traditional "Little Horses" from the required list, and their additional song was "When I Grow Up" from the musical Matilda.
The performances are heard by two adjudicators who make evaluations according to a standard, then provide written and verbal feedback, and finally award a medal. The Choristers were awarded a gold for their exceptional performance!
The Bronxvillle Middle School students who sang in the performance were 8th-graders Megan Barker, Patrick Bird, Olivia Conniff, Avalon Kaplan, Annabelle Krause, Lorelei Heath, Zahara Ismail, Isabel Overby, Caroline Palermo, Safiya Patel, Elaina Poulos, Uma Revadigar, and Alanna Thompson; 7th-graders Eliza Brennan, Hughie Duffy, Maggie Lockwood, and Isaiah Weir; and 6th-graders Ellie Brakatselos, Brooks Clifford, Savannah Delli Colli, Munira Dhuliyawala, Isabela Fenner, Beatrice McLain, Michaela McSherry, and Sanaa Patel.
Congratulations to Ms. Simpson and the Choristers!
