April 20, 2011: On Sunday, May 1, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, long-time village resident Sarah Underhill will be honored for her dedicated service to the greater Bronxville community at the Gramatan Village "May Magic" wine reception. The "magical" reception will be held at Siwanoy Country Club, and all proceeds from the benefit will go to support Gramatan Village programs and services.
Numerous organizations and institutions have benefited from Sarah's commitment and knowledge, including the Bronxville School, where she served as chairman of the Bronxville School Foundation board for two years; Sarah Lawrence College, where she acts as president of its library board; The Reformed Church of Bronxville, where she is currently an elder on its consistory; and Jansen Hospice and Palliative Care, where she was a member of its board. Sarah has recently become a trustee of the Bronxville Public Library.
"Thus," says benefit co-chair Schatze Thorp, "it is especially fitting that at the benefit Sarah will be the recipient of an annual award for 'dedicated commitment to sustaining the quality of life in Bronxville.' The award was established by Warren Ilchman, a board director of Gramatan Village, in honor of Judge J. Rockhill Gray, a founding vice president of Gramatan Village, whose long and active life in Bronxville so clearly manifested those qualities."
Benefit attendees will also enjoy the tricks of two performers from New York City's Magical Entertainment. "With this combination of magical fun and the chance to honor one of Bronxville's leading residents," said Nancy Hand, benefit co-chair, "May Magic is certainly the place to be on May 1."
Gramatan Village is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to offer support and information to Bronxville area seniors so that they can continue to live safely and comfortably in their homes as they age and, in some cases, need specialized services, including health care. During its three years of operation its members have enjoyed social events and cultural outings, discounts from local businesses, assistance from a dedicated corps of volunteers, and referrals to screened local service providers.
Admission to May Magic is $100 per person, all but $25 of which is tax-deductible. The community is invited to attend. Contributions by both attendees and non-attendees are welcome.
