Gramatan Village Launches Book Club

Jun. 7, 2017: Continuing its tradition to provide social, cultural, and educational activities, Gramatan Village has started a book club for its members and guests.
The idea of the Gramatan Village Book Club is to encourage members to remain socially active and engaged with others and to provide intellectual stimulation. The creation of the club was suggested by Barbara White, a Gramatan Village member who also serves on the board of directors, and she has volunteered to lead the group from May through August. The meetings will be held on the second Wednesday of each month at 10:00 am at the Gramatan Village office at 85 Pondfield Road. During the sessions, light refreshments will be served.
So, if you like to read, appreciate a good discussion, and enjoy getting together with friends and meeting new people, the Gramatan Village Book Club may be right for you. You'd be surprised at the many advantages that come with belonging to an active enclave of readers.
The first book discussed by the book club on May 10 was A Man Called Ove, by Fredrik Backman. The group was small, but the conversation was lively, as Ove is a very interesting character and the book is a light-hearted and moving novel.
The next book, The Zookeeper's Wife, by Diane Ackerman, will be discussed on Wednesday, June 14. This true WWII story is a fascinating account of the keepers of the Warsaw Zoo who saved hundreds of people from the hands of the Nazis.
Additional books to be discussed will be selected by the participants at the upcoming June gathering. A variety of genres will be considered, including classics, biographies, and fiction and non-fiction bestsellers.
To support our mission and the community's support of local merchants, we have collaborated with our community partner, Womrath Bookshop, which will participate in the program by ordering the selected books for participants. Books can also be ordered by Gramatan Village.
"Book clubs offer many benefits to their members and are a wonderful social experience," said Barbara White. "They provide stimulating conversation, lively discussions, foster a sense of community, and are a great way to meet new people and learn both about them and from them."

Organized in 1982, the Bronxville Beautification Council (BBC) is a not-for-profit organization administered by a volunteer Board of Directors. The mission of the BBC is to enhance and maintain the natural and man-made beauty of the village of Bronxville, with an emphasis on the downtown business district.

Boulder Ledge Garden Club
Founded in 1966, the Boulder Ledge Garden Club is rooted in a mission to inspire a deeper appreciation and love for gardening and flower arranging. The club is dedicated to fostering and promoting interest and knowledge in gardening.
The Club maintains Bronxville’s Bicentennial Park and other civic gardens. In 2019–2020 the club raised $18,000 to replace trees in the village, reflecting its active role in community beautification. It also holds garden therapy projects and educational garden trips for members.

Bronxville Giving Garden
The Bronxville Giving Garden is a community-centered garden that donates organic produce to Eastchester Community Action Partnership in Tuckahoe and Community Service Associates in Mount Vernon. The garden is also a gathering place where school children and volunteers can discover the joy of tending plants and growing food.

Bronxville Green Committee
The Bronxville Green Committee is a volunteer organization that is part of the Village of Bronxville. It proposes and implements environmentally sustainable programs in our community.

Bronxville Boy Scouts
The village of Bronxville has a long tradition of scouting. “The troops and packs of Bronxville have maintained the finest scouting organizations and have taught the boys of the Bronxville area to be leaders and outstanding members of the local, national and global communities.”
