Nadia Trimmer, Development and Marketing Executive for Jansen Hospice and Palliative Care, to Retire in June

Jun. 14, 2017:  Jansen Hospice and Palliative Care in Bronxville will lose a vital member of its institutional and extended family when Nadia Trimmer retires from her development and marketing position at the end of the month.

"Public relations and development is something I found and fell into," Trimmer said. "I had always done volunteer work, and always work that built a connection to people. My work has centered around establishing the personal relationship."

Trimmer joined Jansen in 2003 after working at St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary in Crestwood and Beth Abraham Health Services.

"The whole meaning of life," Trimmer said, "is that we, all of us, are tied in together." She added that this is the message Jansen Hospice and Palliative Care works to convey in everything the organization does and in every service it provides to patients and family members. Effectiveness in creating and communicating that personal connection has enabled Jansen to build a supportive community in Bronxville and in the greater Westchester area.

Trimmer's work over the past fourteen years has focused on special events that raise funds for the organization, the May benefit cocktail party, the Better than Cooking Dinner! fundraiser, and the Celebration of Lights, held every December.

The May benefit cocktail party, which was originally held on a Sunday afternoon with about 125 attendees, has expanded so much since its inception, Trimmer noted, and become such a cherished event, that it now welcomes up to 225 attendees on a Saturday evening.

Trimmer has worked on Better Than Cooking Dinner! since 2003 with the co-chairs of the event. "The country club chefs who participate helped start this," she said. "They took Jansen on as their charity of choice." Through the years, chefs from several local restaurants such as Underhills Crossing in Bronxville, Eastchester Fish Gourmet, and An American Bistro in Tuckahoe, have become involved in this very popular fundraiser.

December's Celebration of Lights is the opportunity for family members to honor and remember their loved ones who have passed away under Jansen care. Up to 200 people attend the candle-lighting service every year. "It's such a privilege to be there, to be able to share this time with the family members," Trimmer said. "The nurses and social workers say the same thing."

One of Trimmer's prime goals in working in development and marketing for Jansen Hospice has been getting to know people and help give the organization a face separate from the care provided for patients and family members. Her efforts, she said, have helped build a community around an endeavor that could, without the personal relationships, be no more than an anonymous mailer that arrives several times a year.

Trimmer's post-retirement plans include travel.

"My work has centered around establishing the personal relationship," Nadia Trimmer said. "This has been such a joy, a joy to get to know Jansen."
