Bronxville Police Blotter: October 7 to October 13, 2015

Wednesday, October 7, 7:09 pm, Summit Avenue: Officers responded to a call from a Summit Avenue resident who reported that an unknown male had knocked on his door. Two males, one 17- and one 19-year-old, both of Mount Vernon, were interviewed by police. The males stated that they were looking for someone who owed them money. Officers were unable to confirm their story, as the person they claimed to have been looking for had never lived at that address.
Thursday, October 8, 7:29 am, Pondfield Road: A 29-year-old resident of Monroe, NY, was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the 3rd degree after he was stopped for "no distinctive license plate." He had two suspensions from Orange County for failure to answer a summons. The 2003 Volkswagen GTI he was operating was impounded. He was processed on scene and released pending his next court appearance.
Friday, October 9, 5:58 pm, Elm Lane: A homeowner reported that an undetermined amount of jewelry had been removed from her master bedroom closet sometime during the day. There were no signs of forced entry, and the rear door was discovered ajar. The incident is under investigation.
Saturday, October 10, 8:50 am, Dusenberry Road: Debris from an unreported motor vehicle accident was removed from the yard of a residence. A two-foot cobblestone wall and grass were damaged by the unknown vehicle, which had left the scene. Officers canvassed the area and could not locate the vehicle.
Monday, October 12, 2:03 pm, Tanglewylde Avenue: Officers responded to a verbal dispute on Tanglewylde Avenue. An 81-year-old resident of Yonkers was interviewed. He admittedly stated that he had followed the 28-year-old Yonkers driver to that location and exited the vehicle to confront him because he had "cut him off" in the west side circle (Pondfield Road at Parkway Road). He was verbally warned and admonished by officers.
Tuesday, October 13, 12:46 pm, 34 Palmer Avenue: The alleyway door to the building was tagged with graffiti. Officers canvassed the area and observed similar markings on a couple of buildings in the area. The incident is under investigation.

Bronxville is a quaint village (one square mile) located just 16 miles north of midtown Manhattan (roughly 30 minutes on the train) and has a population of approximately 6,500. It is known as a premier community with an excellent public school (K-12) and easy access to Manhattan. Bronxville offers many amenities including an attractive business district, a hospital (Lawrence Hospital), public paddle and tennis courts, fine dining at local restaurants, two private country clubs and a community library.
While the earliest settlers of Bronxville date back to the first half of the 18th century, the history of the modern suburb of Bronxville began in 1890 when William Van Duzer Lawrence purchased a farm and commissioned the architect, William A. Bates, to design a planned community of houses for well-known artists and professionals that became a thriving art colony. This community, now called Lawrence Park, is listed on the National register of Historic Places and many of the homes still have artists’ studios. A neighborhood association within Lawrence Park called “The Hilltop Association” keeps this heritage alive with art shows and other events for neighbors.
Bronxville offers many charming neighborhoods as well as a variety of living options for residents including single family homes, town houses, cooperatives and condominiums. One of the chief benefits of living in “the village” is that your children can attend the Bronxville School.
The Bronxville postal zone (10708, known as “Bronxville PO”) includes the village of Bronxville as well as the Chester Heights section of Eastchester, parts of Tuckahoe and the Lawrence Park West, Cedar Knolls, Armour Villa and Longvale sections of Yonkers. Many of these areas have their own distinct character. For instance, the Armour Villa section has many historic homes and even has its own newsletter called “The Villa Voice” which reports on neighborhood news.
