Elizabeth von Habsburg, Director of Winston Art Group, to Discuss Art as an Asset at Concordia’s Business Breakfast Tuesday, April 29

Apr. 23, 2014:  Elizabeth von Habsburg, managing director of Winston Art Group, will give a presentation titled "Art as an Asset" on Tuesday, April 29, at Concordia College. A light breakfast will be served at 7:00 am, followed by the presentation at 7:30 am.

This free presentation, another in the Concordia Business Breakfast program, is sponsored by Friends of Concordia and will be held in the Krenz Academic Center on the Concordia College campus.

Elizabeth von Habsburg is a qualified expert witness and frequent lecturer on fine and decorative art. She brings 28 years of experience in the art world to Winston Art Group, the nation's leading independent art appraisal and advisory firm.

Independent of any auction house or dealer, Winston specializes in confidential and objective appraisal services and advice on the acquisition and disposal of all fine and decorative art, jewelry, and collectibles.

Von Habsburg will speak about how to enhance, protect, and grow the financial value of art. She will share the common pitfalls faced in the process of buying art and will discuss how to protect against forgery and how to develop strategies for purchasing and selling at auction as well as using art as loan collateral.

Before joining Winston, von Habsburg was president of US operations for Estate Advisory Services, where she worked for 18 years. Prior to that, she was vice president and director of the estates and appraisals department of Habsburg Fine Art Auctioneers.

She started her career as assistant vice president in charge of the appraisal department at Christie's New York. She serves on the board of The Appraisers Association of America; as 2014 chair of The Appraisal Foundation; as a fellow of the Morgan Library & Museum and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors; as a member of ArtTable; and on an advisory committee of the Museum of Arts and Design.

She is a graduate of Stanford and Columbia Universities. Her published work includes contributions to Fine Art and High Finance: Expert Advice on the Economics of Ownership; Appraising Art: The Definitive Guide to Appraising the Fine and Decorative Arts; and three books in The Antique Hunter's Guides series, American Pottery & Porcelain, American Furniture: Tables, Chairs, Sofas & Beds, and American Silver & Pewter.

Bronxville Public Library

Bronxville Public Library

The Bronxville Public Library traces its origins back to 1875, when it was a small lending library housed in a room attached to the “Bronxville Model School.” The Library was officially chartered in 1906 and moved into the Village Hall Building. The needs of the library grew with the town and, in 1942, a new standalone building was erected, which is where the Library is today. Over the years, the Library was renovated and expanded to meet the needs of the community.

The Library has wonderful resources for adults and children and offers a comfortable and relaxing environment. The Library also houses a fine art collection, consisting principally of Bronxville painters and sculptors.

The Library offers special events, art exhibitions, and programs for adults, young adults and children.  All events are open to the public, unless otherwise indicated.
