Jan. 26, 2022: The Friends of the Bronxville Public Library (FOBPL) encourages book clubs to read The Magnolia Palace by Fiona Davis, in preparation for a special conversation with the New York Times bestselling author that will take place on Wednesday, March 9 at 7:00 p.m. in the Bronxville High School Auditorium. Monica Malpass, business anchor at Nasdaq and formerly the longtime anchor for WPVI-TV’s award-winning evening news, will moderate the evening.

The Magnolia Palace, the Book of the Month pick for January, is a tantalizing historical novel about secrets, betrayal and murder within the Frick, one of New York City’s most impressive Gilded Age mansions. Davis pulls readers into a captivating dual narrative exploring the Frick both as a private family residence and the museum it would become. The novel unwinds through the alternating perspectives of two women, both models, whose experiences at the Frick are separated by nearly 50 years and are linked across the decades by the imperious daughter of Henry Clay Frick, Helen Frick.

“We are thrilled to host Fiona Davis again to discuss her latest novel, The Magnolia Palace,” said FOBPL president Lauren Toal. “Her last author talk for her New York Times bestseller The Lions of Fifth Avenue drew an audience of more than 200.”

Fiona Davis is the bestselling author of six historical fiction novels set in iconic New York City buildings, including The Dollhouse, The Address and The Lions of Fifth Avenue, which was a Good Morning America book club pick. Her novels have been chosen as “One Book, One Community” reads and her articles have appeared in publications like The Wall Street Journal and O the Oprah magazine.

The novel has received high praise, including a starred review from Publishers Weekly, which described it as “Davis’s best work to date.” Christina Baker Kline, herself the New York Times bestselling author of Orphan Train and The Exiles, noted that “Fiona Davis is at the top of her game…A family saga and historical thriller in one, The Magnolia Palace is a fast-paced, immersive delight.”

Bronxville Public Library

The Bronxville Public Library traces its origins back to 1875, when it was a small lending library housed in a room attached to the “Bronxville Model School.” The Library was officially chartered in 1906 and moved into the Village Hall Building. The needs of the library grew with the town and, in 1942, a new standalone building was erected, which is where the Library is today. Over the years, the Library was renovated and expanded to meet the needs of the community.

The Library has wonderful resources for adults and children and offers a comfortable and relaxing environment. The Library also houses a fine art collection, consisting principally of Bronxville painters and sculptors.

The Library offers special events, art exhibitions, and programs for adults, young adults and children. All events are open to the public, unless otherwise indicated.
