Children's Poetry Contest Under Way at Bronxville Public Library; See Entry Details

Written by Angela DeMarchi, Elementary Librarian, Bronxville Public Library
Mar. 25, 2015: The Friends of the Bronxville Public Library is once again holding its annual children's poetry contest. The aim of this event is to inspire children to become interested in poetry and also to encourage them to write their own poems and win some great prizes
This year we want to promote the theme "poetry is fun and . . . it's for everyone." Therefore, all children who attend the Bronxville schools (elementary, middle, and high school), St. Joseph School, or The Chapel School are invited to write an original poem in any style about their favorite theme or hobby, whatever that might be.
It is hoped that children who are interested in sports, acting, music, computers, etc., will also become interested in poetry and the joy of not only reading but writing their own poems.
As with previous years, there will be four categories: elementary (K-2), elementary (3-5), middle school, and high school.
The winners from each category will be invited to read their poems at the Annual Bronxville Public Library Poetry Event in April. At this event, the winners will also be presented with their prizes of a $50 Womrath gift card and a certificate.
Key dates for the contest are:
- Closing date for all entries: Friday, April 10
- Winners will be announced: Monday, April 20
- The winner for each category will be invited (along with family and friends) to read his or her poems and receive prizes at the Annual Bronxville Public Library Poetry Event, which will be held at the library at 4:00 pm on Sunday, April 26.
All entries should be sent to Friends of the Bronxville Public Library, 201 Pondfield Road, Bronxville, NY 10708. Please include on the back of the poem name, age, grade, school, parent contact number, and email address.
