Bronxville Has Second House Break-in in One Week; Reward Offered for Information

By Staff
May 20, 2015: Following a break-in last week on Sunday, May 10, on Governors Road, the Bronxville Police Department reported via an eAlert a second burglary that occurred on Summit Avenue on Saturday, May 16.
The burglary at 5 Governors Road occurred while the owner was away, the owner said. The alarm system, however, had been set, thus alerting the police of the entry. The burglars evidently entered through a window on the second floor and made off with a small safe containing $500 and various personal documents. An investigation is under way.
An investigation is also under way for the burglary that took place the following week on Summit Avenue. It occurred at 10:58 pm at 35 Summit Avenue while the owners were in the house. The eAlert states that "entry was made into the home by forcing open a second-floor window"; this is the same method used in the Governors Road break-in. The eAlert continues, "The homeowners were accosted in the home by two black males and property was stolen from within the home. The suspects fled on foot."
In the same eAlert, Chief of Police Christopher Satriale said that the police department is "asking residents who have cameras recording the exterior of their homes in the following locations to contact the police department immediately: Summit Avenue, Woodland Avenue, Studio Lane, Beechwood Road, Hemlock Road, Hawthorne Road, Masterton Road, The High Road, Tanglewylde Avenue and Pondfield Road."
The eAlert further says that if items such as jewelry and coins are discovered on your property, do not touch them; call the police department immediately.
In the eAlert, residents are urged to "lock and alarm all windows and doors in their homes and activate the burglar alarm system at all times—not just when you are away from the home."
Residents are also asked to immediately report suspicious noises, persons, motion light activation, or suspicious vehicles to the Bronxville Police Department.
New York State Crime Stoppers issued the following statement: "New York State Crime Stoppers is assisting the Bronxville Police Department by offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the persons responsible for a violent home invasion at 35 Summit Avenue, Bronxville, N.Y. Anyone with information regarding this incident should call the NYS Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-866-313-Tips (8477). Callers can remain anonymous.
